HST right now

HST is Hawaii Standard Time, ten hours behind UTC. It is the all-year clock of Honolulu, Maui, Kauai and the Big Island. Hawaii has not used daylight saving since the 1940s, so its offset is fixed.

The gap between Hawaii and the mainland therefore moves with the seasons. In winter Honolulu is two hours behind Los Angeles and five behind New York. In summer, when the mainland moves forward, the gaps grow to three and six hours.

When this page was last built (Friday, November 6, 2026, 12:00 UTC) it was 2:00 AM on Friday in Hawaii Standard Time. The offset for HST is UTC−10. The live clock above takes over as soon as the page loads and shows the exact current time.

Daylight saving. Hawaii Standard Time never observes daylight saving time, so the offset stays UTC−10 every day of the year and no clock change is coming in 2026 or 2027.

Where HST is used

HST is used in Hawaii and, with a different name, in parts of the Aleutian Islands.

  • Honolulu
  • Hilo
  • Kailua-Kona
  • Lahaina
  • Kahului
  • Lihue
  • Pearl City
  • Kapolei
  • Wailuku
  • Kaneohe

The Aleutian Islands in Alaska use Hawaii–Aleutian time, which has the same winter offset but does observe daylight saving, so they are on UTC−9 in summer. Several islands of the Pacific, including the Cook Islands and Tahiti, also sit on UTC−10 or close to it.

Hawaii time in practice

Hawaii is the farthest-west US state, so the day ends there last. A deadline of “11:59 PM Hawaii time” is the longest day possible within US jurisdiction, and some contests and filings use it deliberately. It is 4:59 AM the next morning in New York in winter.

For tourism and shipping, Hawaii is a bridge to Asia. When it is 9 AM in Honolulu it is 4 AM the next day in Tokyo and 12:30 AM in Delhi. The one overlap between Hawaii and Japan is the evening in Hawaii and the early morning in Japan, which suits calls scheduled around 7 PM HST.

US military and federal agencies with Pacific commands follow HST for local operations while reporting upward in Zulu time. Civilians dealing with them in Honolulu should ask for the wall-clock time and the date, because the date line makes the day number differ from Asia by one.

HST compared with eight other zones

Figures are calculated for Nov 6, 2026 using UTC−10 for HST. For example, 9:00 AM HST = 12:30 AM IST (next day). Zones that change their clocks will show a different gap after their next switch.

ZoneOffset on Nov 6, 2026DifferenceExample
IST (India)UTC+5:30IST is 15 hours 30 minutes ahead of HST9:00 AM HST = 12:30 AM IST next day
GMT (London)UTC+0GMT is 10 hours ahead of HST9:00 AM HST = 7:00 PM GMT
CET (Paris)UTC+1CET is 11 hours ahead of HST9:00 AM HST = 8:00 PM CET
UTCUTC+0UTC is 10 hours ahead of HST9:00 AM HST = 7:00 PM UTC
PST (Los Angeles)UTC−8PST is 2 hours ahead of HST9:00 AM HST = 11:00 AM PST
CST (Chicago)UTC−6CST is 4 hours ahead of HST9:00 AM HST = 1:00 PM CST
JST (Tokyo)UTC+9JST is 19 hours ahead of HST9:00 AM HST = 4:00 AM JST next day
AEDT (Sydney)UTC+11AEDT is 21 hours ahead of HST9:00 AM HST = 6:00 AM AEDT next day

“next day” and “previous day” mean the other zone is on a different calendar date from HST at that moment.

HST versus HT, HAST and Hong Kong

“HST” is Hawaii Standard Time. It is also written HAST (Hawaii–Aleutian Standard Time) for the zone as a whole. The summer form HDT applies only to the Aleutians, because Hawaii itself has no daylight time.

HST can be mistaken for HKT (Hong Kong Time) in a quick read, and the two are 18 hours apart. If a schedule from Asia uses “HST”, check that it does not mean the Hawaiian clock.

Do not assume Hawaii moves its clocks. It does not, and any tool that offers an HDT choice for Honolulu is incorrect.

HST questions answered

What time is it in HST right now?

The clock at the top shows UTC−10. Add ten hours to get UTC, so 8:00 AM HST is 18:00 UTC.

Does Hawaii have daylight saving?

No. Hawaii stays on HST all year. The offset never changes, but the gap to the US mainland does.

How far behind is Hawaii from California?

Two hours in winter and three hours in summer, because California moves its clocks and Hawaii does not.

What is 9 AM HST in India?

9 AM HST is 12:30 AM the next day in India. India is 15 hours 30 minutes ahead of Hawaii all year.

Is Hawaii on the same day as Japan?

Usually not. Hawaii is 19 hours behind Japan, so most of the Hawaiian day is the Japanese tomorrow.
