MST right now
MST is Mountain Standard Time, seven hours behind UTC. It is the winter clock in Denver, Salt Lake City, Boise and Albuquerque, and the all-year clock in most of Arizona, which never moves to daylight saving.
That Arizona exception is the single most important thing to know about MST. From mid March to early November, Phoenix has the same time as Los Angeles, while Denver, an hour later, moves to Mountain Daylight Time (MDT, UTC−6). In winter Phoenix and Denver agree again.
When this page was last built (Friday, November 6, 2026, 12:00 UTC) it was 5:00 AM on Friday in Mountain Standard Time. The offset for MST is UTC−7. The live clock above takes over as soon as the page loads and shows the exact current time.
Where MST is used
MST covers the Rocky Mountain states of the US, Canada’s Yukon and a few Mexican states.
- Denver
- Phoenix
- Salt Lake City
- Albuquerque
- Boise
- Tucson
- Colorado Springs
- El Paso
- Cheyenne
- Billings
- Whitehorse
Arizona (apart from the Navajo Nation), parts of Sonora in Mexico and Canada’s Yukon territory use UTC−7 all year. Most other mountain-time places observe MDT in summer.
Working across the Mountain time zone
Mountain time sits in the middle of the US working day. It is two hours behind New York and one hour ahead of Los Angeles, so a call at 10 AM MST reaches the East Coast at noon and the West Coast at 9 AM. For companies with staff on both coasts, a Mountain base is a quiet but practical choice.
Because Arizona stays still while the rest of the country moves, Phoenix-based teams have to adjust their invites twice a year. A weekly meeting set to “10 AM Phoenix” is 12 PM in New York from November to March, then 1 PM in New York from March to November. Teams without a named-city calendar entry often miss this.
From the other side of the world, MST is far away. India is 12 hours 30 minutes ahead in winter, and Japan is 16 hours ahead. The slice of time where both a Denver office and an Indian one are awake is small: roughly 7 to 9 AM in Denver, which is the Indian evening.
MST compared with eight other zones
Figures are calculated for Nov 6, 2026 using UTC−7 for MST. For example, 9:00 AM MST = 9:30 PM IST. Zones that change their clocks will show a different gap after their next switch.
| Zone | Offset on Nov 6, 2026 | Difference | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| IST (India) | UTC+5:30 | IST is 12 hours 30 minutes ahead of MST | 9:00 AM MST = 9:30 PM IST |
| GMT (London) | UTC+0 | GMT is 7 hours ahead of MST | 9:00 AM MST = 4:00 PM GMT |
| CET (Paris) | UTC+1 | CET is 8 hours ahead of MST | 9:00 AM MST = 5:00 PM CET |
| UTC | UTC+0 | UTC is 7 hours ahead of MST | 9:00 AM MST = 4:00 PM UTC |
| PST (Los Angeles) | UTC−8 | PST is 1 hour behind MST | 9:00 AM MST = 8:00 AM PST |
| CST (Chicago) | UTC−6 | CST is 1 hour ahead of MST | 9:00 AM MST = 10:00 AM CST |
| JST (Tokyo) | UTC+9 | JST is 16 hours ahead of MST | 9:00 AM MST = 1:00 AM JST next day |
| AEDT (Sydney) | UTC+11 | AEDT is 18 hours ahead of MST | 9:00 AM MST = 3:00 AM AEDT next day |
“next day” and “previous day” mean the other zone is on a different calendar date from MST at that moment.
MST, MT and the Arizona trap
“MT”, Mountain Time, covers whichever of MST or MDT is in force in Denver. “MST” is the winter offset, UTC−7, and also the permanent offset of Arizona. A meeting called “10 AM MST” in July is correct for a Phoenix wall clock and wrong for a Denver one, which is on MDT then.
Canada adds another wrinkle. Canada’s Yukon territory sits at UTC−7 permanently, while Canadian provinces have been changing their daylight saving rules, so the same offset can mean a place that changes its clocks and a place that does not.
For anything legal or contractual, write the city or the offset. “10:00 UTC−7” means the same thing everywhere and cannot be misread when the rest of the country changes its clocks around Arizona.
MST questions answered
What time is it in MST right now?
The clock at the top shows the current time at UTC−7. If it is 19:00 UTC it is noon MST. Phoenix matches this all year.
Does Arizona observe daylight saving?
No. Most of Arizona stays on MST all year. The Navajo Nation, in the north-east of the state, does observe daylight saving, although Hopi lands inside it do not.
Is Denver on MST or MDT?
The daylight saving line above answers this for the build date. Denver is on MST in winter and MDT, UTC−6, from March to November.
What is the difference between MST and PST?
MST is one hour ahead of PST. When it is 9:00 AM PST in Los Angeles it is 10:00 AM MST in Denver in winter. In summer, Phoenix and Los Angeles show the same time.
What time is noon MST in India?
Noon MST is 12:30 AM the next day in India. India is 12 hours 30 minutes ahead of MST, regardless of season, because India never changes its clock.
